Celebrations at Sea

By Jessie Bowens

Imagine a cruise with beautiful views, a soft sea breeze, and the warm rays of the setting sun. Believe it or not, one can experience this in the Boston Harbor with Karma Crew Yacht Charters.
Karma Crew was founded in 2014 by CEO Catherine Applegate. She was joined by Mi-chael Murphy, COO and Captain. Applegate isn’t new to the boating lifestyle; she sold her home four years ago in order to live on a boat. “I grew up boating and want to share that experience with others, whether for a couple hours, overnight, or a week,” says Applegate. She then purchased Full Moon, which stretches 65 feet in length. This woodhull yacht built in 1948 can accommodate up to 39 guests celebrating anything from a birthday party to a corporate function. Options include a two-or three-hour cruise, a menu from one of Karma Crew’s caterers, and a cash or open bar.
A client can host an event or attend one of Karma Crew’s ticketed events. Ticketed events this season include Wine Tasting Wednesdays and Good Day Mate Coffee Cruises. BOATique occurs four weeks throughout the year; Applegate hosts trunk shows that feature women’s fashions from ETCETERA, a chic line for women on the go. Customers can make appointments for personal shopping experiences on board. In addition, Applegate hopes to open a bed and breakfast at sea.
No matter what the celebration is, Applegate strives to make events memorable. She even spoke of a bereavement cruise that was once hosted on board. “We were able to make a very tough day memorable for a very special family,” said Applegate.
